Bobby Mackey & the Music Wars formed in the late 1970s and put out a few albums, including one called 'The Legend of Johanna' in 1983. Their song 'Johanna' got some attention, a country tune about missing someone.
In 1982, Mackey's girlfriend Paula Jean Welden was killed at their nightclub, The Gator Bait Bar. The investigation brought up rumors about the band, though Mackey wasn't charged. After that, people started saying the bar felt haunted, with stories about things moving and strange noises during shows.
The band kept playing, but the whole thing with the murder and the ghost stories stuck to their name more than the music did.
