Suzanne Bogguss grew up in Peoria, Illinois, and started playing local open mics. Her voice was considered too country for some labels early on, but she kept performing. In 1988, she met producer Chet Atkins, who signed her to Curb Records.
She released eight studio albums between 1988 and 2007. Her band included musicians like Doug Lancio on guitar and Stuart Duncan on fiddle and banjo. She kept playing her kind of country music without much fuss about changing it up.
