Bola de Meia

Bola de Meia came out of Rio de Janeiro's favelas with a sound that mixed samba, funk, and reggae. Their debut album in 2003, also called 'Bola de Meia,' got them noticed with its street-level energy and storytelling. The song 'Bom Malandro' became something of an anthem, speaking to life on the margins with a rhythm that was hard to ignore.

Their lyrics often dealt with poverty and police brutality, which sometimes drew attention from authorities. But that attention seemed to amplify their message rather than quiet it. They kept performing, building a following in underground circuits before reaching a wider audience.

Later albums like 'Malandro Não Morre' and 'O Céu é o Limite' continued in that vein, solidifying their reputation for urban grooves. The band was always a collective effort, drawing on the varied backgrounds of its members to create that specific sound.
