Bonde das Antigas do Forró formed in 2002 in Fortaleza, with Ismael de Oliveira, Neto Silva, and Zélia Xavier at the core. They started by mixing traditional forró from Brazil's northeast with electronic dance music and hip-hop, which didn't sit well with some traditionalists at first. Their 2006 track "Sobrenatural" became a national hit, pulling them into wider recognition.
Their sound, sometimes called forró eletrônico, drew criticism from purists who felt it strayed too far from the genre's roots. But the band kept at it, releasing albums like "Forró Eletrônico" in 2004 and a live recording from Recife in 2008. Another track, "Bar do João," features Lauro Bonde.
By 2012 they put out "Dez Anos," marking a decade together. The lineup shifted some over time, but Oliveira, Silva, and Xavier remained the constant center. Their approach opened up forró to younger crowds and electronic music fans, giving the tradition a different kind of pulse.
