Bonde do Role formed in Rio de Janeiro around 2005, mixing funk carioca with electroclash and baile funk. The group originally included vocalist Pedro Henrique Gomes, DJ Rodrigo Ogi, and MC Gilmar Silva.
They put out their first album, 'Melô do Baile,' in 2006. Gilmar left the band the following year, and Pedro and Ogi continued as a duo, releasing 'Arrocha É Foda' in 2008. Their music sometimes addressed social issues like poverty and violence, which resonated with some listeners in Brazil's favelas.
Later albums included 'Modernidade' in 2010 and 'Tropicalbacana' in 2013. The group's sound remained rooted in that blend of Brazilian funk and electronic styles they'd been working with from the start.
