Bonde do Amorzão came out of São Paulo in the mid-2000s, a collective built around MCs Pedro Dantas and Rodrigo Ogi. Their sound pulled from baile funk and samba, with electronic touches, and it found an audience quickly. Their debut album, 'Tudo Vira Bota' from 2007, ran into some censorship over its lyrics, but that didn't slow them down much.
By 2009 they had 'Retumbante' out, which got them wider recognition in Brazil. They worked with a shifting group of collaborators, including singer Céu and rapper Criolo. The track 'Mozão' became their breakout hit, with its pulsing rhythm and direct lyrics catching on.
