A Brazilian group that mixed neighborhood stories with dancefloor beats.
For a quick sense of their sound, try 'Decisão' or 'Saudade do Caramba.' They're both good examples of how they handled those neighborhood stories.
They came out of Rio's favelas in the early 2000s with a sound that felt specific to that place, electro-funk with lyrics about life there. Songs like 'Decisão' and 'Saudade do Caramba' carried that mix of street-level storytelling and danceable energy. It gave them an audience both in Brazil and beyond, without smoothing out where they came from.
They formed with Pedro Diniz on vocals, Rodrigo Gorky on bass, and DJ Mau Mau. Their 2006 debut included 'Dormir de Conchinha,' and they followed with albums like 'Bolado' in 2007 and 'Respeitem Meu Samba' in 2009. The lineup shifted over the years, with Mau Mau leaving in 2010 and Diniz departing in 2019, leaving Gorky as the only original member still involved.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
