Bonde do Esquenta started in 2006 with DJ Marlboro, DJ Emerson, and MC Cherry. Their sound mixed funk carioca, hip-hop, and electronic dance music, catching on quickly in Brazil. In 2007, their debut album 'Bonde do Esquenta' came out, and the single 'Cheia de Charme' became a big hit, helping define the Brazilian funk scene of that time.
They also had a song called 'Bum Bum No Chão' that got attention. But the group faced criticism for explicit lyrics in their music, and their live shows sometimes led to trouble, including an arrest in 2011 over concert violence. That incident caused them to take a break for a few years.
They came back in 2014 and put out albums like 'Stereo' in 2015, 'Pop Bang Boom' in 2017, and 'Baile Funk' in 2019. Their work kept them active in the funk and dance music circles without much of the earlier drama.
