Bosco Carvalho and William Cabral came out of Salvador, Bahia in the mid-1980s with a sound that mixed MPB with reggae. Their first album, simply called 'Bosco & William,' arrived in 1986. They built their songs around acoustic guitars and drums, with both men singing.
Their most remembered track is probably 'Quando É Mês de Julho,' a song about summer childhoods on Bahian beaches that became strongly associated with that month for many listeners. They kept recording through the early 1990s, putting out albums like 'O Cheiro da Terra' in 1989 and 'Pura Magia' in 1991.
At one point they faced some public noise over claims that the melody for another song, 'A Rita,' wasn't entirely original. Bosco Carvalho's birth name was Valmir Ribeiro de Carvalho.
