Boyd Rice was born in Denver, Colorado in 1961. In the early 1980s, he formed the experimental band NON, working with ambient noise and industrial elements. His 1983 release 'Music for the Gift' combined industrial noise with experimental ambient textures.
Rice has occasionally collaborated with other musicians, including Tiffany Anders on the 2011 track 'Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonter'. He's also worked with Thorsten Müller and The Legendary Pink Dots. His 1997 album 'The Black Album' blended ambient drone with vocals.
His work has drawn both interest and criticism for its exploration of dark themes. Rice has largely remained a solitary artist throughout his career, though he released 'Cold Meat Industry' in 1986 through the Norwegian label of the same name.
