Br-232 formed in Brasília in 1983 with Emerson Holanda on vocals, Lelo Maia and Edgard Scandurra on guitars, Nando Reis on bass, and André Pretorius on drums. Their debut album came out the following year. They were part of that wave of Brazilian rock bands that came up in the mid-80s, writing songs that mixed straightforward rock with pop melodies and lyrics that often touched on social issues.
Their song "Se Um Dia Eu Voltar" became something of an anthem, especially for listeners who connected with its themes of political change and longing. Other tracks like "Canção de Despedida" and "Futuro Incerto" carried a similar weight, melodic but grounded in the uncertainties of the period.
They released albums steadily through the decade, including 1987's Sobre o Tempo and 1989's Quatro. By 1991, the members had split to work on other projects. They reunited in 2012 for a series of concerts, playing those older songs to audiences who still remembered them.
