Brainfreeze formed in London in the late 1990s with Ethan James on vocals and guitar, Oliver Harper on lead guitar, Emily Carter on bass, and Jacob Miller on drums. Their debut album 'Violent Wake' came out in 1999 and got some attention in the UK alternative scene.
In 2003 they released the album 'Marrow,' which included the title track and another song called 'We Hate Your Guts.' The song 'Marrow' became their most recognizable piece. Around that time, Ethan James had some public struggles with substance abuse and mental health, which led to a break for the band.
They came back in 2007 with 'The Great Escape' and have put out a few more albums since, including 'Phoenix' in 2012 and 'Shadow Side' in 2018. The same four members have stayed together through all of it.
