Brainless Wankers came out of London's underground punk scene with a loud, messy sound that didn't fit anywhere neatly. Their debut album '12 Hours More' gave them some notoriety, with the title track becoming a kind of anthem for people who liked their punk mixed with metal and a dose of humor.
The band had a lineup with colorful nicknames: Jimmy 'The Brain' Johnson on vocals, Steve 'The Wanker' Wilkins on guitar, Tony 'The Twat' Thompson on bass, and Harry 'The Retard' Harrison on drums. Their live shows were known for being provocative, and they once caused a minor riot at a local festival with a particularly raunchy set.
They put out a few more albums after '12 Hours More,' including 'The Ballad of the Brainless Wankers' in 1985 and 'Fuck You, We're the Brainless Wankers' in 1987. The music could swing from fast punk songs to slower, more introspective tracks, but it always kept that rough-edged quality that defined their early work.
