Brancoala formed in São Paulo in the early 1990s. Their name references Branca, a figure in Afro-Brazilian spiritualism. The band's sound mixed Brazilian rhythms with contemporary elements, and their 1994 self-titled debut established their approach.
In 1997, the single 'Craudete' became a major hit. It was a samba-rock track that topped charts across Brazil. Regardless, 'Craudete' became a Brazilian classic, along with other songs like 'Com Meus Amigos' and 'Sim Eu Vou'.
The band released several albums including 'Grito' in 1999, 'Ao Vivo' in 2003, and 'O Samba Que Eu Canto' in 2007. Core members included vocalist Doca, guitarist Osmar Rezende, bassist Carlos Marques, and drummer Sergio Oliveira.
