Bratmobile formed in Olympia, Washington in 1991, with Allison Wolfe on vocals, Molly Neuman on guitar, Erin Smith on bass, and Christina Billotte on drums. Their first album, 'Pottymouth,' came out in 1993. The band was part of the riot grrrl movement, which created space for women in punk.
Their songs like 'Cool Schmool' and 'And I Live in a Town Where the Boys...' mixed punk energy with direct lyrics about female experience. They put out five studio albums, including 'Ladies, Women, and Girls' in 1994 and 'LP' in 1996.
The lineup changed over time. Their music stayed rooted in that early '90s Olympia scene, where they helped define a sound that was both confrontational and catchy.
