Bravura

Bravura formed in 2004 as a trio of musicians: violinist Anya Petrova, cellist Nikolai Kapustin, and pianist Mikhail Ivanov. They started by reworking classical pieces with a rock energy, which drew some criticism from traditionalists who felt they were straying too far from the genre. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2005.

Their music pulls from Baroque and Romantic classical styles, sometimes touching on jazz or contemporary sounds. The band's performances lean on technical skill and the interplay between violin, cello, and piano. They've worked with artists like Dave Grohl and Bono, collaborations that divided listeners but kept their sound in motion.

Songs like 'Espelho Quebrado' and 'Ignorância' show how they handle tension and release without sticking to a pure classical format. They haven't avoided friction with the classical establishment, but they've kept recording and playing on their own terms.
