Brenn Hill

Brenn Hill is a band that formed around the songwriting of Casey McPherson, who handles lead vocals and guitar. They put out their first album, Walk With Me, in 2009, a collection of acoustic ballads and folk tunes. By 2013, with The Road to Buffalo, they started weaving in more bluegrass and Americana sounds. The group includes Brad Pemberton on mandolin, John Ragsdale on bass, and Patrick McAvinue on drums, all contributing vocals.

Their 2016 album, The Ballad of Buffalo Brogan, gave them a title track that became a kind of calling card. It's a story song about frontier hardship, and it sits alongside other tracks like Angels Can Do No More and Bitter Creek in their catalog. They followed it up in 2019 with Fire & Light, which touched on social and environmental themes.

For a while, they balanced music with day jobs, playing the kind of material that feels grounded in traditional storytelling rather than chasing trends. Their music doesn't really fit into a grand narrative of breakthroughs or anthems; it's more the steady work of a band building a set of songs over a decade or so.
