Brilhantines

The Brilhantines formed in São Paulo in the early 2000s around vocalist Gabriela Estrela, bassist Juliano Galati, and drummer Pedro Bert. They started playing in underground venues, working out a sound that mixed experimental rock with Brazilian rhythms. Their 2005 debut album 'Tucatacá' gave them a breakthrough, with the title track becoming a hit. Critics noticed Estrela's voice, which could shift from quiet whispers to high falsetto.

Estrela's reserved manner sometimes led to talk that she was distant, and the band's experimental side drew some criticism from listeners who preferred more traditional sounds. They kept working anyway, avoiding genre boxes and continuing to explore different approaches. Songs like 'À Espera da Primavera' and 'Amanhã' show their range, from folky melodies to more atmospheric pieces.

They never became a mainstream fixture, but they built a following that appreciated their willingness to try things. The music stayed grounded in Brazilian textures even when it wandered into electronic or rock territory. Their catalog is modest but specific, with tracks like 'Canção de amor' and 'Desabafo' offering quieter, more intimate moments alongside their more expansive work.
