Archive material and source history

Brother Cane came out of Orlando in the early 1990s, a hard rock band built around singer Damien Starkey and guitarist Damon Johnson, with Mark Lorenz on bass and Scott Collier on drums. Their self-titled debut in 1991 didn't break through, but they kept at it. Things turned around with their second album, 'Seeds,' in 1993. The single 'And Fools Shine On' got on the radio and connected, becoming their biggest hit.

The band toured hard behind that record. But by 1995, Starkey was out, replaced by Devon Allman. Collier left too, with David Black taking over on drums. They kept going for a bit, putting out songs like 'Got No Shame' and 'Hard Act To Follow,' but the lineup that made 'And Fools Shine On' was done.
