Brown Bird was a folk duo from Providence, Rhode Island, formed in 2003 by David Lamb and MorganEve Swain. Their sound centered on Lamb's vocals and Swain's guitar work, with songs like 'Bilgewater' and 'Severed Soul' showing their spare, haunting approach. They put out their self-titled debut in 2004, followed by albums such as 'The Devil Dancing' in 2006 and 'Fits of Reason' in 2010.
In 2010, Swain was diagnosed with breast cancer, which interrupted their touring and recording. The 2013 album 'Salt for Salt' dealt directly with that experience. The duo's music often drew comparisons to figures like Nick Drake, but they kept their own grounded, unadorned feel.
Their song 'Bilgewater,' from 'The Devil Dancing,' became one of their best-known tracks. Other songs in their catalog include 'Danger And Dread,' 'Down To The River,' and 'Barren Lakes.'
