Brown Brigade

Brown Brigade came out of the late 1980s hardcore punk scene with a lineup that included vocalist Keith 'Fritz' Friedrich, guitarist Doug 'Brawn' Bollt, bassist Steve 'Animal' Booth, and drummer Armando 'Arm' DeAnda. Their 1989 song 'Aggravation Plantation' drew attention for its lyrics about working-class injustice, though it also sparked accusations of racism and anti-Semitism that followed the band for years.

They put out records like 'Brown Brigade' in 1989, 'Don't Touch Me, I'm Sterile' in 1991, and 'The Plague' in 1993. Their live shows were known for being violent and confrontational, which fit with their reputation among more extreme parts of the punk scene. The lineup shifted over time, with Friedrich as the constant member; Bollt eventually left to help form Cro-Mags.

Other songs like 'Blame The Wizards' and 'Down With Brown' kept their sound rooted in that aggressive hardcore style. They faced legal trouble too, including a lawsuit from the Anti-Defamation League over an album cover symbol. By the mid-90s, with albums like 'Into the Atomizer' in 1995, their music had carved out a specific, contentious place in punk that people still argue about.
