Bruno Lauzi

Bruno Lauzi was born in Asmara, Eritrea in 1937. He started writing songs in the late 1950s, drawing from Italian folk traditions. His breakthrough came in 1964 with 'La tartaruga,' a song about a solitary tortoise that connected with listeners across Italy.

Lauzi wrote about everyday life with a plainspoken clarity. Songs like 'Ritornerai' and 'Ti Ruberò' dealt with love and separation without grand gestures. He also looked outward, as in 'Arrivano i cinesi,' which observed social changes with a quiet eye.

He kept writing and recording for decades, but never chased trends. The work stayed grounded in melody and straightforward language. When he sang about Genova in 'Genova & La Luna,' it felt like a conversation rather than a postcard.
