Background notes

Archive material and source history

Bruno Lomas was born in 1940 in Vélez-Málaga, Spain. His father played flamenco guitar and his mother sang, which gave him an early connection to music. In the early 1960s, he helped form the band Los Brincos and sang on their songs "Lola" and "Borracho." He left the group in 1966 to go solo.

His first solo album, "Por Un Amor," came out in 1967. It included "La Mantilla," a song that became his biggest hit. The record reached the top of the Spanish charts and made him a well-known singer of Spanish ballads. He released several more albums through the early 1970s, like "El Tren De La Vida" and "Te Espero."

Lomas died in 2009. His version of "La Mantilla" is still remembered as a classic Spanish song.
