Bruno Martino

Bruno Martino was born in Naples in 1925, where his father played mandolin and introduced him to traditional Neapolitan music. He started writing songs as a young man, picking up guitar and piano along the way.

In the early 1950s, he began performing in competitions and released his debut single 'Core 'ngrato' in 1953. By the late 1950s and early 1960s, he was touring Italy and Europe regularly. His 1960 song 'Estate' became a summer standard that still gets played today, along with other recordings like 'La Ragazza Di Ipanema' and 'Sono Stanco'.

Martino's style mixed Neapolitan folk with jazz harmonies, which sometimes drew criticism from traditionalists. He faced some personal and financial difficulties in the 1970s that slowed his output, but he kept writing and performing.
