Bruno Paiva grew up in Rio de Janeiro, where he heard samba, funk carioca, and bossa nova around the house. He started a band called Alma Brasileira as a teenager, playing original songs at local shows. In 2012, he put out his first solo album, Deixa Ser Eu, and the title track caught on as a ballad about self-acceptance.
That album led to others like No Compasso do Meu Coração in 2015 and Só Pra Você in 2018. He also recorded a live set in São Paulo. Songs like Salve São Jorge and O Samba Esquentou show his feel for Brazilian rhythms without trying to sound like a throwback.
In 2017, there was some noise about a plagiarism claim involving one of his melodies, but it didn't stick. He kept writing and performing, putting out tracks like Reclusados and Sou Da Madrugada that fit right in with what he'd been doing all along.
