Buck Owens

Buck Owens was a country singer who recorded for Capitol Records, not Decca as sometimes mentioned. His 1968 song 'Mirror Mirror On The Wall' became one of his signature recordings, though he had hits throughout the 1960s including 'Under Your Spell Again' and 'I've Got a Tiger by the Tail.'

He worked with a band called The Buckaroos that included guitarist Don Rich. Some accounts mention Merle Haggard playing with them early on, though Haggard's own career soon took a different path. Owens' sound had a twangy, direct quality that stood out on songs like 'Tall Dark Stranger' and 'Ashes Of Love.'

Owens was known for having conservative political views during the Vietnam War era, which sometimes drew attention away from his music. He continued recording into the 1970s and beyond, with material like 'Dust On Mother's Bible' showing his range. The Country Music Hall of Fame inducted him in 1996.
