Jorge Ben Jor produced some of their early material, helping them shape a sound that mixed those roots with funk and samba.
Their song "Se Não Existisse o Sol" came out in 2003 and became a staple in Brazilian folk circles. The band has put out other albums like "Forró do Boi" in 1996 and "Terra de Sol" in 2006, but that single remains their most recognized piece.
Over time, the lineup expanded to include Cyro Lima on drums and Vandré on keyboards. They're still based in Maranhão, playing the local festivals and keeping the Bumba Meu Boi rhythms alive without much fuss or fanfare.
