Bumbasstick formed in Los Angeles in the late 1990s with vocalist and guitarist Luna Vega, bassist Jake Reyes, and drummer Sam Hill. They played rock, funk, and soul, though early shows didn't draw much attention. Their debut album 'Soul Symphony' came out in 2005, and its single 'Aire' became a hit. That song, along with others like 'Iluminame' and 'Todo Todo Te Doy,' got them on the radio and sent them on tour.
In 2012, Vega was arrested for drug possession, which complicated things for the band.
