Archive material and source history
C-Bo was a rapper from Sacramento who started releasing music in the mid-1990s. He put out his first album, 'Gas Chamber,' on AWOL Records after getting out of prison in 1994. Songs like 'America's Nightmare' and '187 Dance' gave voice to the frustrations and realities of street life in California.
His lyrics dealt directly with police violence, poverty, and the conditions he saw around him.
He collaborated with other West Coast artists including E-40 and Too $hort, and eventually started his own label called West Coast Mafia Records. C-Bo was shot and killed in Los Angeles in 2005.
