C. Perkins was born in Jackson, Tennessee in 1931. He signed with Sun Records in 1955 after meeting producer Sam Phillips, who recognized something in his playing. At Sun, he recorded what would become his most famous song, "Blue Suede Shoes."
In 1957, Perkins released "Because of You," a ballad that reached the top of the charts. The song's direct lyrics about heartbreak connected with listeners. Around that same time, he was in a serious car accident that caused him to miss a tour with Elvis Presley.
He kept recording after that, including the song "It Will Rain." The details of his later work are less documented than his Sun years, but those early recordings, especially "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Because of You," have stayed in circulation.
