C-Tres formed in Salvador, Bahia in the early 1990s as a trio with vocalist and guitarist Fábio Baiano, drummer Alberto Pita, and bassist Marcelo Malizia. They started playing local bars and clubs, working with a mix of samba, reggae, and funk. Their first album came out in 1997, titled after the song 'Querer É Poder,' which became a hit. They followed it with albums like 'Vê Se Pode' in 1999 and 'Som do Brasil' in 2002.
Their music, including tracks like 'Tento Esconder,' carried an upbeat, rhythmic feel that connected with audiences in Brazil and abroad. They toured through Latin America, Europe, and the United States. In 2005, Baiano was arrested for drug possession, which briefly interrupted their momentum, but the band kept going.
They released several more albums through the 2000s, such as 'Bahia de Todos os Ritmos' in 2004 and an acoustic set in 2006. Their sound stayed rooted in those Brazilian rhythms they started with, even as they played bigger stages.
