Cabeça Ativa formed in São Paulo in 1997 with four members: Paulinho Mancin on vocals, Bruno Heder on guitar, Felipe Pacheco on bass, and André Kurlan on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1999 and included the song 'Quando Você Apareceu,' which became a hit in Brazil.
They released two more albums, 'Mundo Real' in 2002 and 'Porta Aberta' in 2005. At some point in the early 2000s, Felipe Pacheco left the band and was replaced by bassist Gilberto Gil.
