Caco Calaça formed in 1987 in Salvador, Bahia, with Caco Tabajara on vocals and guitar, Alexandre Arnoud on percussion, and Alexandre da Cunha on bass. They worked in a mix of Afro-Brazilian rhythms, reggae, and pop, and their 1997 album 'Chamarei Por Ti' gave them one of their better-known songs.
Their debut album won the Prêmio Sharp de Música in 1992. They kept recording into the 2000s with albums like 'Sempre Somos Iguais' and 'O Amor É Um Lugar'.
Some of their lyrics and stage shows drew criticism, but they kept a steady lineup for years. Songs like 'Olha Pra Mim' and 'O Senhor É Rei' stayed in their set.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
