Cactus formed in Southern California in the late 1960s, with Rusty Day on vocals, Jim McCarty on guitar, Tim Bogert on bass, and Carmine Appice on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1970, featuring tracks like 'Parchman Farm' and 'Feel So Good' that mixed blues riffs with heavy rock grooves. The band was known for loud, energetic live shows that drew attention in the early hard rock scene.
They released several more albums over the next few years, including 'One Way... or Another' in 1971 and 'Ot 'N' Sweaty' in 1972. McCarty left the band in 1972 and was replaced by Werner Fritzsching. Internal tensions and financial issues led to their breakup in 1973.
After the split, members like Bogert and Appice went on to play in other rock projects.
