Cadaverous Condition

Cadaverous Condition formed in 2012, emerging from what remained of a previous band. Their debut album came out in 2014, titled after the song "...And Then Forgotten." That track, along with others like "Alone I Will Travel in Time Tonight" and "Destroy Your Life," helped define their sound, a mix of doom, gothic, and atmospheric black metal that leans into melancholy themes.

Chris Bartholomew handles vocals and guitar, with Mark Thompson on bass, David Wilson on drums, and Emily Reed on keyboards and vocals. They followed their first album with another full-length in 2017 called "Ruins of a Broken Past," plus a couple of EPs in the mid-2010s. The music often deals with isolation, memory, and mortality, which has drawn some criticism for being overly morbid, though Bartholomew has said they're more interested in exploring the human condition than glorifying darkness.

Their songs tend to build slow, haunting atmospheres with intricate guitar work and sorrowful vocals. It's not music that tries to fit neatly into one subgenre, and it hasn't chased mainstream attention. They've stayed in the underground metal scene, where their records have found listeners who connect with that particular blend of beauty and unease.
