Cade Mussum formed in 2003 with three members from Rio de Janeiro: MC Dengue, MC Magrinho, and DJ Pimenta. They started making music about life in their community, and in 2008 their song 'Baladinha de Ladrão' caught on with listeners across Brazil. The track's lyrics touched on police violence and political corruption, giving the band a reputation for speaking plainly about difficult subjects.
Their music mixes samba, funk, and rap, and they've put out four albums since that first breakthrough. Along with 'Baladinha de Ladrão,' songs like 'Pavilhão Nove,' 'Nicotina,' and 'Saia Desse Bolso Que Não Te Pertence Mais' have become part of their set. The group has faced some pushback over their lyrics, but they've kept recording and performing through it.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
