Cadence Weapon

Cadence Weapon is the moniker of Rollie Pemberton, a musician from Edmonton, Canada. He started releasing music in the early 2000s, first under the alias Young ROLO with an experimental hip-hop EP called "Breaking Kayfabe." His proper debut album under the Cadence Weapon name came out in 2006, also titled "Breaking Kayfabe."

His music often deals with social and political themes. In 2018, he released the single "30 Seconds," which addressed the Canadian government's treatment of Indigenous peoples. Other songs like "Oliver Square" and "Real Estate" appear in his catalog alongside tracks such as "Diamond Cutter" and "Grim Fandango." He has worked with artists including Thundercat, Lido Pimienta, and JPEGMAFIA.

Pemberton's 2009 album "Hope in Dirt City" won the Polaris Music Prize, and his 2018 album "Parallel World" was nominated for a Juno Award. He typically handles songwriting and production himself, though he has occasionally recorded with musicians like drummer Dave Switzer and bassist Michael Small.
