Cães de Rua

Cães de Rua formed in São Paulo in 1981 with Paulo Miklos, Toni Platão, Roberto Schmidt, and Cláudio Santana. Their music mixed punk, reggae, and samba into something raw and direct, with songs like 'A Revolta Dos Que Não Foram' and 'Cabeça de Pobre' addressing social inequality and poverty in plain language.

Early on, their performances sometimes ran into trouble with authorities who didn't like what they were saying. But the band kept playing, and their straightforward approach to difficult topics found an audience. They put out records like 'Cães de Rua' in 1984 and 'Paulistanos' in 1986, building a catalog that stayed grounded in the streets they came from.

Their 1993 album 'A Revolta Dos Que Não Foram' gave the band one of its most recognizable songs. They kept working into the 2000s, recording an acoustic session for MTV in 2002, but never lost that initial rough-edged sound or their focus on everyday struggles.
