Café

Café formed in the early 2000s in Rio de Janeiro with a lineup that included vocalists Zezé Motta and Lica Tito, percussionists Paulinho da Costa and Carlinhos Brown, and guitarist Armandinho. Their music worked with samba rhythms while bringing in touches of jazz and pop.

Their 2004 debut album featured the song 'Conselho,' which became one of their better-known tracks. In 2008, that song was at the center of a plagiarism dispute when some listeners pointed out similarities to a traditional folk tune. Café maintained the melody came from their own background.

Other songs like 'Nova Estação' and 'Livre Acesso' appeared on later albums, including 2006's 'Café com Leite' and a live recording from 2010. The group kept playing and recording through that period, sticking with their approach to samba even when some critics called it too commercial.
