Caio Bassitt

Caio Bassitt came up in the late 1990s with his debut album 'Seu Zé do Catimbó.' The title track, a ballad about a legendary healer, became an instant hit and helped define his early sound. That album and songs like 'Mirela' and 'Contrapeso' pulled from traditional forró and the rhythms of catimbó, an Afro-Brazilian religious practice he grew up around in Northeastern Brazil.

His lyrics often dealt plainly with poverty, violence, and social injustice, which resonated with some listeners and alienated others. While forró remained the foundation, he later worked in elements of rock, reggae, and electronic music. His band has typically included Rafael Almeida on accordion and Marinho do Ceará on percussion.

Bassitt has released several albums since, including 'Último Show' in 2003 and 'O Canto da Terra' in 2006. Tracks like 'Inconstância' and 'Lei do tormento' show his continued focus on raw, evocative storytelling. He has faced personal struggles, including drug addiction, but kept recording and performing.
