Caladan Brood formed in 2004 around guitarist and vocalist Marvin Vriesde, with drummer Daniel Manch and bassist Niels de Vries joining in the early lineup. They put out their debut album 'Echoes Of Battle' in 2008, which included tracks like 'A Voice Born Of Stone And Dust' and 'To Walk The Ashes Of Dead Empires.'
That first record established their sound, which pulls from black metal and doom with some progressive touches. They've released several albums since, including 'The Great Exodus' in 2012 and 'Astral Fortress' in 2016, with 'Covenant' arriving in 2023.
Their songs often run long and atmospheric, dealing with themes of war and myth. Titles like 'The Passing Of The Grey Company' and 'Book Of The Fallen' give a sense of their lyrical territory.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
