Calcio System

Calcio System formed in Florence in the early 1980s with Andrea Chimenti on vocals and keyboards, Marco Lepri on guitar, Fabio Pignatelli on bass, and Fabrizio Sapignoli on drums. They worked in a space between post-punk and electronic music, with atmospheric keyboards and lyrics that leaned toward the introspective.

Their 1984 album 'A Heap of Broken Images' gave the band its most recognizable song. Other tracks from that period, like 'Ballad Of Mr. Gachot' and 'Eva Braun,' carried a similar mood. They released several more albums through the late 1980s and early 1990s, including 'The Sweetest Resort' and 'The Body of the Night.'

Their music wasn't built for the mainstream, and they seemed to prefer it that way. The band's run was relatively brief, but the records they made in Florence have held up for listeners who find something in that particular blend of melody and atmosphere.
