Calibre Rock formed in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in the late 2000s with Rodolfo Abrantes on vocals and guitar, Michel Villares on guitar, Lucas Silveira on bass, and Bruno Boncini on drums. They released their self-titled debut album in 2009, followed by four more numbered albums through 2020.
Their music mixed rock with Brazilian rhythms, and songs like "A Razão" and "Dois Corpos" showed their interest in personal and sometimes difficult themes. In 2014, "A Razão" drew criticism from some conservative groups for its lyrics about religious doubt, but the band stood by the song.
They built their sound gradually, putting out records every few years without much mainstream fuss. The straightforward album titles, Calibre Rock, Calibre Rock II, and so on, suggest a band more focused on the work than on branding.
