California Breed formed in 2013 around former Creed frontman Scott Stapp, who was joined by guitarist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2015, featuring songs like 'All Falls Down' and 'Strong.'
Stapp's personal struggles, including a 2016 arrest for domestic violence, led to his temporary departure and lineup changes. Tremonti and Marshall left around that time, and Stapp brought in new members, including guitarist Zakk Wylde, bassist Jackie Chambers, and drummer Jason Sutter. The band released their second album, 'Silence,' in 2017.
Their third album, 'Bleed the Sun,' arrived in 2020 and showed a shift toward heavier riffs and faster tempos compared to their earlier work.
