Calle Ciega

Calle Ciega formed in Havana in 1995, with Roberto 'El Chino' Alfonso on lead vocals, Juan Carlos Alfonso on bass, Raydel Alfonso on drums, and Armando 'Mandy' Cantero on timbales. They put out their self-titled debut album in 1997. A couple of years later, the song 'Una Vez Mas' became a major hit for them, a ballad that connected with listeners well beyond Cuba.

Their sound was salsa, built around those core members. In 2002, Juan Carlos and Raydel Alfonso left the group, which led to some changes in the lineup. They kept recording, with albums like 'Desde Mi Habana' in 2001 and 'La Verdad' in 2009. Other songs like 'Porque Te Amo' and 'Mis Ojos Lloran Por Ti' also became part of their set.

In 2010, they faced some public criticism after a concert in Miami where they were accused of performing for a pro-Castro crowd. They continued to work after that, releasing 'Salsa Callejera' in 2013.
