They eventually expanded their lineup to include drums, bass, fiddle, bodhrán, and bagpipes, creating a sound that blended Celtic folk with progressive rock and ambient textures.
Their debut album 'Callenish Circle' came out in 1988, followed by 'The Stone Circle' in 1991 and 'The Light of the Northern Star' in 1996. Songs like 'This Day You Regret' and 'As You Speak' became fan favorites, with McKerrell's lyrics often exploring themes of love, loss, and regret against their atmospheric arrangements.
Some traditionalists in the Celtic music community criticized their incorporation of modern elements, but the band maintained their approach. Their music drew from Scottish and Irish traditions alongside influences like J.R.R. Tolkien's writings and Brian Eno's soundscapes.
