Calzone formed in São Paulo in 2010 with Amanda Lira on vocals, Pedro Campos on guitar, Carlos Mendes on bass, and Felipe Gomes on drums. Their first album, "Perguntas," came out in 2012 and gave them a song that stuck around. They put out three more records after that: "Desgraça" in 2014, "Refúgio" in 2017, and "Cicatriz" in 2020.
Their music leaned toward alternative rock with some distorted guitar work and lyrics that tended to look inward. The track "Zezinho Popstar" showed up later in their catalog. They worked with the Brazilian musician Edgard Scandurra at some point, which brought a different angle to what they were doing.
Calzone never seemed interested in fitting neatly into a genre or chasing a mainstream sound, which made them a particular kind of band. They built a following that connected with the questions in their songs more than with any sort of spectacle.
