Camaradas Camarão formed in São Paulo in the early 2010s, mixing rap and funk with Brazilian rhythms. Their track 'Og Kush' got them noticed nationally, and they followed it with songs like 'Smoke Camarão' and 'Rap Rua' that kept their sound grounded in street-level perspective.
Nego Bala handled vocals and lyrics, Magrão produced and played instruments, and DJ Will worked the turntables. They put out an EP in 2013, another in 2015, and released the album 'Sintonia de Rua' in 2018. Their lyrics about social issues and marginalized communities sometimes drew criticism, but they kept at it.
By 2020 they had another album called 'Evolução' that brought in some soul and jazz touches alongside the Brazilian elements. Tracks like 'Zebra' and 'Prato da Família' showed they were still working with the same basic materials, just arranging them differently.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
