Camila Moreno (BR)

Camila Moreno was born in São Paulo in 1984. Her father was a guitarist who introduced her to Brazilian rhythms like samba and bossa nova, and she sang in a church choir as a child. Her debut album 'Eta Carinae' came out in 2009, mixing indie rock with those traditional sounds. The title track addressed environmental degradation, a theme she'd return to.

Songs like 'No Recreio' and 'A Estrada' show her style, thoughtful lyrics set against shifting rhythms. She's worked with musicians like guitarist Rodrigo Campos and bassist Alexandre Fontanetti, and collaborated with Gilberto Gil.

Moreno's writing sometimes draws criticism for its social commentary, and in 2016 there were plagiarism claims about 'No Recreio,' which she denied. She keeps making music that feels both personal and pointed, without smoothing over the rough edges.
