Canarinho e Colibri was a Brazilian duo formed in the early 1970s by José Augusto and Renato Teixeira. They worked within Brazilian folk traditions, drawing from samba, bossa nova, and sertanejo. Their debut album, simply titled "Canarinho e Colibri," included what became their best-known song, "A Bolinha."
During the politically tense 1970s, their lyrics sometimes addressed social issues, which occasionally brought them attention from censors. They kept recording through that period, putting out albums like "A Gente Canta" in 1974 and "Romance" in 1979. Other songs from their catalog include "O Amor e o Poder (The Power Of Love)" and "A Distância."
They collaborated with other Brazilian artists including Vinicius de Moraes, Toquinho, and Chico Buarque. José Augusto handled most of the lead vocals, while Renato Teixeira played guitar and contributed to composition and backing vocals.
